Faseriges - Fiber things

Last weekend I visited the Heidewollfest in Schneverdingen with friends - a wonderful fair with a wide range of beautiful offers, I met some friends again and had a lot of fun - and bought some fibers :)!

No, that's not all mine - that's what 3 people bought!

That's very special fiber that I got - it's Spelsau, a very old and rare Norwegian breed of sheep, with very long and curly hair, a complete fleece, first shearing!

On our way back I had to try at once, with my new supported drop spindle, directly from the fleece.

That's a totally different feeling to spin - there is quite a lot of lanoline in it, a lot of plant fibers and some dirt, I'm sure.

In the evening I put the Spelsau on the wheel - I want to keep the character of the fleece and intentionally spin an uneven yarn.

Isn't that a beautiful "turtle" that Birgit spins so fine on her Turkish drop spindle? Some time in the far future I'll be able to spin so beautiful as well :) ...

And this looks really pretty - Brigitta's first try to spinning, yes, we have successfully infected her :)!

The first bobbin of Spelsau is nearly full - so full that it will fit onto one bobbin when I ply it. I'm so happy with this fleece, so beautiful locks, so pretty colors, I enjoy every meter of it!

I plied with a natural white industrial silk yarn.

And then I had a suprise how much dirt there is in it - the fibers looked quite clean :)!

Nach dem 8. (!)

After the 8th (!) bath the water finally was clear - what a color difference!
Now the yarn can dry.

I am so excited how the yarn knits up and how it looks when it's knitted!

LG Heike
