This is the special look of knitting hand dyed yarns!

If you knit a yarn, it gets a lot of mechanical stress and strain. All color pigments that are not completely bound to the fiber, will fall out. This makes your hand and knitting needles colored.
THIS IS NO FAULT!!!!!!!!
The falling out of excessive color pigments is rather a sign of very good quality of the hand dyed yarn. It shows you that the hand dyer did not use extreme chemicals to fixate the colors!
Industrial fixation is done with lots of chemicals, that's the way the colors get so light-resistant. It's a question of rinsing - rinsing - rinsing how much chemistry there is still in the yarn. High quality yarns are chemistry-free after lots of rinsing.
If hand dyed yarn is properly rinsed after dying and fixating the color, the last rinsing water is clear. You can touch and handle and wind the yarn without getting colored hands. Knitting the yarn means stretching and moving and straining it into all directions. All pigments that are not completely bound fall out through this process. With black yarn, you can see this very well :)!
You can clean your hands by simply washing them with soap.

Was ich da gerade verstricke?

What do I just knit?
It's the wonderful hand dyed yarn of Tri'Coterie I won at their contest.

I'm knitting on a very ambitious project for me - I really want to knit a one-skein project! It shall be a small wrap, let's see whether I'll succeed :) ...
