Helmstedt 2014

Herrlich war's! Einfach toll - und ich verrat als erstes, dass ich mich schon auf das große Swing-Stricker-Treffen 2015 in Helmstedt freue!

It was wonderful, just wonderful! 
And the first thing I tell is: I'm already looking forward to Helmstedt 2015, the Swing-Knitting Meeting next year!

Am Montag nachmittag sind wir angekommen, und die große Stöberrunde durch Petras Kreativladen war pure Lust - Lust an Farben, Lust an tollen Garnen, Lust auf Swing-Stricken!

On Monday we already arrived, and the first walk around Petra's Kreativladen was pure joy - the joy of colors, the joy of yarns, the joy of Swing-Knitting!

Von Dienstag bis Donnerstag haben wir dann den großen Einführungskurs ins Swing-Stricken gemacht - mit drei wunderbaren Mädels - DANKE, an Anke, Ina und Angelika! Es hat einen Riesenspaß gemacht, mit euch das Swing-Stricken zu erarbeiten!
Wir haben viel gelacht, viel gelernt, großen Spaß gehabt, und ihr habt wunderschöne Swing-Schals mehr als halb fertig gestrickt!

From Tuesday to Thursday we had the Swing-Knitting basic live class with three wonderful students. Ina, Angelika und Anke - you did a great job, we had a lot of fun and laughter, and you all knitted more than half of three beautiful Swingy Shawls - THANK YOU!

 

Am Donnerstag nachmittag sollte ich frei haben - ähömmm!
Nur mal eben die Technikprobe im Kloster St. Ludgerus - dabei habe ich dann auch die einzigen Fotos vom Kloster gemacht ..... Nachdem wir dann bis abends geräumt und Tische und Stühle gestellt und überlegt und umgeplant hatten, war nur noch Feierabend!
Das Kloster ist ein wunderbarer Veranstaltungsort: schöne Zimmer, helle Räume, tolle Ausstattung, prima Essen, perfekt!

On Thursday afternoon, I had planned to have free time - okay, that was the plan at least!
Just testing the technical equipment in Kloster St. Ludgerus - then I made 3 photos of the former monastery .....
We planned and changed tables and seats and tested technique and and and suddenly it was evening! 
The former monastery is a wonderful place for all kinds of events: wonderful rooms, large and well-lit rooms, good equipment, tasty meals, everything just perfect!

Am Freitag hieß es: Fit for Fun! Am Auffrischungskurs zum Swing-Stricken nahmen vier nette Mädels teil, und mit viel Spaß waren eingerostete Kenntnisse schnell wieder da!

On Friday we learned and knitted "Fit for Fun"!
Four wonderful girls came to refresh their Swing-Knitting knowledge. We had a lot of fun, and lost knowledge came out quite fast again.

Während wir uns in Petras Wohnzimmer noch fit for Fun machten, hatte sich Petras Strick Lounge schon gut gefüllt - so viele bekannte Gesichter und Wiedersehensfreude und so viele neue Gesichter und Kennenlernensfreude!

While we were in Petra's living room, knitting fit for fun, Petra's Knitting Lounge had already filled up - so many known faces and a lot of joy meeting them again, and so may new faces and a lot of joy getting to know them in real life!

Und von jetzt an hab ich so gut wie keine Fotos mehr selbst gemacht :) - da war einfach keine Zeit zu!

Samstag war der große Tag! Das 4. Internationale Swing-Strick-Treffen mit Teilnehmerinnen aus nah und fern!!!

Saturday was the great day! The 4th International Swing-Knitting Meeting, with participants from near and far away!

Viele Workshops mit wunderschönen Ergebnissen - darüber berichte ich morgen!

Und eine traumhafte Ausstellung von Werken im Swing-Strick - hier nur einige Fotos, man hätte hunderte dieser wunderschönen Bilder, Accessoires und Kleidungsstücke fotografieren und zeigen können!


And a gorgeous exhibition of Swing-Knitted items. I'll show you just av few photos, I could have taken hundreds of photos of awesome wall pictures, accessories and garments!

 
Und wisst ihr, was ich jetzt mache?
Jetzt packe ich erstmal meine Helmstedt-Koffer, -Taschen und -Boxen aus! Ich habe nämlich seit heute morgen nur Mails beantwortet, Fotos sortiert und geschrieben :)!

I've been working all day answering emails, sorting photos and writing!

Für mich selbst muss ich gleich mal gucken, was für 6 Tage Helmstedt mit darf und muss :)!

Das bringt Ines mit, das brauche ich erst am Freitag. Die holt den Turm gleich ab, dann kann ich mich hier auch wieder bewegen.


All the boxes with the things I need for my classes are packed!
What I need for 6 days in Helmstedt, I'll look next.

This tower of boxes will make the journey with Ines. What is in them, I'll need from Friday to Sunday. Ines will come later and fetch the boxes. Then I'll be able to move in my room again :).

Und das müssen wir in Brigittas Auto unterkriegen :)!

Ich freu mich so!!!!!!! Auf die lieben Freunde, die ich in Helmstedt wieder treffe, auf die "Neuen", die ich endlich persönlich kennenlernen werde!
Das große Swing-Strick-Treffen in Helmstedt ist das ganz große Ereignis des Jahres für mich!!

The Swing-Knitting Meeting in Helmstedt is the happiest event of the year for me!

Mein Mapro-Stapel wächst und gedeiht - einige muss ich noch messen, waschen, spannen, wieder messen, und einige Knäulchen liegen hier noch.

My stack of swatches grows - some I still have to measure, wash, block, measure again, and there are still a few balls to taste.

Von diesem Garn (Austermann Caleido) die Maschenprobe ist spurlos verschwunden - ich glaub, ich such gleich mal den Garten ab, Linda guckt schon wieder schuldbewusst ..... Das Mädel beweist echt Geschmack - nur Edelgarne werden geklaut und verschleppt .....

The swatch made with this yarn (Austermann Caleido) is gone - I think I have to search the garden for it, Linda looks quite conscious-stricken .... This girl really has good taste, she only steals really noble yarns...

Dabei hätte ich sie bei manchen Garnen echt als Blindenhund zum Zählen gebraucht ...

I'd rather needed her as a blind man's dog when counting the gauge with some yarns ....

Ich finde die Step 6 von Austermann wunderschön, ein wunderschön weiches 6fach-Sockengarn mit einer tollen Färbung,  aber das Auszählen ist echt mühsam ....

Step 6 made by Austermann is a beautiful yarn, a wonderfully soft 6ply sock yarn with gorgeous coloration. But counting the gauge is real work ....

Was für eine Pracht!

Es ist zwar ärgerlich, dass ich die meisten Modelle meines Buchprojekts noch einmal stricken muss - aber mit solchen Garnen macht das auch richtig Spaß!!

Yes, it is a nuisance that I have to knit most of the designs of my book again!

Yes, it is real fun though, with such yarns :)!

Anhand meiner ersten Serie Probeläppchen konnte ich die wolligen Teilnehmer  für einige Modelle schon neu besetzen - es wird kein Garn mehr darin sein, das nicht garantiert lieferbar ist! Und da ist nichts bei, was "zweite Wahl" ist, einige Garne gefallen mir deutlich besser als die ursprünglich verwendeten!

When I did my first series of swatches, I already found a lot of yarns that more than substitute the yarns I originally used. I will only use yarns that can be bought in a yarn shop, it is guaranteed! No "second choice", some of the new yarns I even like better than the old coice.

Diesmal habe ich auch darauf geachtet, nur mit wirklich zuverlässigen Partnern zusammenzuarbeiten, deren Wort gilt. Guckt mal auf meiner Danke-Seite, da gibt's einige Änderungen!

This time I paid special attention to the partners I cooperate with - they are absolutely reliable, and they keep their word.Please look at my Thank you-page, there are some changes!

Und ich habe Hilfe - die Mädels meines Stricktreffs und ein paar supergute Strickerinnen mehr helfen mir, alle Modelle so schnell wie möglich neu zu stricken - das Schwierigste ist halt, alternative Garne mit GENAU der verwendeten Maschenprobe zu finden, damit ich die Modelle nicht noch alle neu rechnen muss!

I'll have a lot of help - all the girls of my Stricktreff and some more wonderful knitters will help me to knit my designs with the new yarns as soon as possible. The most difficult task is to find new yarns with the EXACT gauge - I really don't want to do all the maths with the designs again!

Gestern bekam ich dann das erste Riesenpaket, schaut selbst!

Wenn die Modelle neu gestrickt sind, müsssen wir neue Fotos machen, und ich muss die Texte entsprechend anpassen, dann das Layout machen und die Anleitungen übersetzen.

Und dann gibt es alles, was nacheinander fertig wird, erst einmal als Einzelanleitungen auf Ravelry - das dauert aber leider noch, davor steht noch eine große Menge Arbeit.

When the designs are knitted, we'll have to make new photos, and I have to change my texts accordingly. Then I have to do the layout, and translations.

Every design that is finished, will be available on Ravelry as a single pattern, as soon as it is finished. This will last a while, still lots of work to do!

Wenn alle Texte dann in Deutsch und Englisch stehen, weiß ich genau, wie viele Seiten es insgesamt werden.

Dann kann ich gucken, ob ich eine Druckerei finde, die es mir zu erschwinglichem Preis druckt, ob einer der Books-on-demand-Anbieter die vielen farbigen Seiten zu erschwinglichem Preis drucken kann, so dass es dann auch eine gedruckte Version geben wird. Bitte Geduld haben, das ist ein Riesenberg an zusätzlicher Arbeit, den ich nun gar nicht eingeplant hatte!

When all my texts are complete in German and English, then I know how many pages this will be.

Then I can look for a printing company or a print-on-demand company that can make my lots of colored pages into a book at an affordable price. Then there will be a printed edition as well. Please have a lot of patience with me, it's a mountain of additional work for me that wasn't planned at all!

Nebenbei strick ich weiter Probeläppchen, schließlich sind da noch einige Modelle, die ich auch neu besetzen will!

Bei den Garnen von Schöller & Stahl und Austermann sind echte Schätze dabei, tolle Qualitäten, Superfarben!

Ich zeig dann mal von Zeit zu Zeit was ....

Nu spinnt'se total! Now she is a spinner as well :)!

Nein, mein allererster Versuch ist das nicht, sondern mein zweiter.

Meinen ersten Spinnversuch hab ich in Granby gemacht, Lois hat mir in Lonesome Stone die Grundzüge des Spinnens mit der Handspindel gezeigt. Und dann ging's leider nicht weiter .....
Diese wunderschöne Handspindel von Georg Leichtlen habe ich in Backnang gesehen - die musste meine werden!
Abends dann ein bisschen rumprobiert, und siehe da, es geht!
Christiane hat mir dieses traumhaft schöne Batt zum Üben geschenkt - und diesmal bleib ich dran! Schließlich will ich ihr das versponnene Garn zeigen, wenn wir uns Ende Mai das nächste Mal sehen!

For my English friends - the word "spinning" in German doesn't only mean spinning yarn, but has a second meaning like "to be nuts" - the German header can mean both :)!

This wasn't my first try in spinning, it was my second one. My first try in spinning with the drop spindle I made in Lonesome Stone, CO. Lois, one of my students and an excellent spinner, showed me the basics of spinning. But I didn't go on then .....

Christiane gave me this beautiful batt to practice - and this time I'll keep practicing - I want to show her my one ply the next time we meet by the end of May!
