Heute Ruhetag - Today is Relax Day

Swing-Knitting(TM) Live in Helmstedt

Heute der versprochene Bericht über den Swing-Stricken Grundkurs in Helmstedt.

Das war eine tolle Gruppe! Wir haben viel gelernt, viel gelacht, nebenbei über Gott und die Welt geredet - drei wundervolle Tage mit wunderbaren Menschen, die für alle gar nicht stressig waren!

Wenn jemand eine Pause brauchte, hat sie die gemacht - jede konnte in ihrem eigenen Tempo stricken, und die dabei auftretenden Fragen haben Brigitta, Baba und ich einzeln beantwortet. Nur für vier Erklärblocks am Anfang, zweimal in der Mitte und einmal am Ende habe ich alle Teilnehmerinnen eingesammelt und darauf geachtet, dass auch alle zu diesen Zeitpunkten ausgeruht waren :).


Dabei konnten wir auf Petras wunderschöner Terrasse das Sommerwetter richtig nutzen, oder wir haben in ihrer schönen hellen und gemütlichen Strick-Lounge gesessen.



Dank Brigitta gibt es sogar ausnahmsweise sogar mal Fotos, auf denen ich zu sehen bin :)!





Today I'll tell you about the Swing-Knitting Live Class in Helmstedt.


It was a wonderful group! We learned a lot, laughed a lot, talked about all the world and his brother - three wonderful days with lovely people and no stress at all!


If someone needed a break, she took it - everyone could knit in her own speed, and if she had questions, Brigitta, Baba and me were there to answer. Just four blocks of pure theory at the start, in the middle and at the end - I took care about everyone being rested for these explanations :).


We could use Petra's beautiful patio to enjoy the summer weather, and we could sit in her well-lit and cozy Knitting Lounge.

Die Zeit verging wie im Fluge, und dabei sind echt tolle Ergebnisse rausgekommen - guckt selbst!

Time just flew, and the resulting WIPs are so beautiful! Look by yourself.

Spät abends haben Baba und ich uns dann noch durch die letzten Korrekturen für die Spring Plumage Jacke gekämpft :) - sobald ich die Übersetzung fertig habe, wird das Muster veröffentlicht.

Late in the night Baba and me made the last corrections on the Spring Plumage pattern - as soon as I have finished the translation, the pattern will be published.

Helmstedt 2013 - Toll war's!! It was wonderful!

Sonntag abend bin ich wieder nach Hause gekommen - 5 wunderschöne Tage Helmstedt mit supernetten Leuten, ganz viel Spaß, vielen neuen Ideen!

On Sunday night I was home again - 5 wonderful days in Helmstedt with lovely people, a lot of fun, amazing new ideas!

Letzten Dienstag ging es los - mit Brigittas neuem Auto! Erstaunlich, was da alles reinpasst! Ganz viel Geswingtes, Kursunterlagen, Technik - und für Brigitta und mich 2 kleine Taschen mit Klamotten :)!

Last Tuesday we started - with Brigitta's new car. Amazing how much stuff fits inside this car - a lot of Swing-Knitted pieces, material for the classes, technics - and two small bags of clothes for Brigitta and me :)!

Auf dem Hinweg dann ein Zwischenstop bei Zitron - schließlich musste  ich die Materialproben und Preise für den Wettbewerb zur Materialkunde ja auch noch mitnehmen, und noch ein paar Tütchen .....

On the way we made a stop at Atelier Zitron - I had to get the yarn probes and the winner's prices for the contest about yarn knowledge - and a few more bags found their places ...

Von Mittwoch bis Freitag haben wir dann einen großen Live Grundkurs Swing-Stricken(TM) gemacht, mit 5 wunderbaren Kursteilnehmerinnen!

Wednesday to Friday we had a Swing-Knitting(TM) Live Class. five lovely students made beautiful shawls! Tomorrow I'll show you these beauties.

Freitag abend haben wir uns dann in großer Runde getroffen - viele der Teilnehmerinnen am großen Swing-Strick-Treffen waren schon angereist, und wir haben einen tollen Abend verbracht, alte Bekannte wiedergetroffen, neue nette Leute kennengelernt.

Many participants of the Big Swing-Knitting Meeting had already arrived on Friday, so we met in a restaurant and spent a wonderful evening - chatting with old friends, getting to know new friends.

Samstag war das große Treffen - vor dem Wachwerden schon zum Quellenhof gefahren und alles für die Workshops bereitgelegt, Technik aufgebaut, bei herrlichem Wetter die wunderschöne Ausstellung im Außenbereich aufgebaut usw......

On Saturday was the Swing-Knitting Meeting - before properly waking up we already had to get everything ready for the workshops: setting up the technical equipment, sorting through the stuff for the different workshops, decorating the garden with a Swing-Knitting exhibition,  ....

 

Nach Petra's herzlicher Begrüßung ging's dann los mit den Workshops!

Morgen geht's los! Tomorrow we'll start!

Morgen geht's los, zu Birgit in die "Barumer Oase" - ich freu mich so darauf! Bis Sonntag bleiben wir dort, ein paar Tage etwas ruhiger gehen lassen, viel stricken, eine Menge Swing-Strick™-Planung, ein richtiger kleiner Urlaub!
Den habe ich mir auch verdient :) - der Kurs "Einführung in horizontale Zielnadeln" für Helmstedt steht!
Und mein Strickstück dazu bekomme ich wohl auch noch fertig! Und dann wird der Kurs zum nächsten Kursbaustein verarbeitet ....
Jetzt muss ich nur noch Berge an CDs brennen für die verschiedenen Workshops in Helmstedt und die Folien für den Overhead-Projektor drucken lassen, alles andere steht!!!

Tomorrow we'll start, I am so happy to visit Birgit at the "Barumer Oase"! We'll stay until Sonday, e few days of rest, a lot of knitting, a lot of Swing-Knitting™ strategy planning, a wonderful little holiday!

I really earned it :) - my live class "Introduction to target pins" is ready!

My piece of knitting as an example with this technique I'll get finished in time, I'm sure. And then the class will become the next Swing-Knitting™ workshop ...

Now I'll only have to burn a small mountain of CDs for the workshops in Helmstedt and place an order to print the sheets for the overhead projector, everything else is done!

Linda hatte am Wochenende Besuch von ihrer besten Freundin Polly.

Last wekkend Linda had a special guest, her best friend Polly. 

 

Dooftuch - dumb shawl

Es gibt Herausforderungen, die braucht man nicht wirklich.

There are challenges you don't need at all ...

Als "Osterüberraschung" hatte meine Mutter einer Bekannten versprochen, dass ich GERNE "MAL EBEN" ein großes Lace-Schultertuch für sie stricke, schließlich sei ich ihr (dieser Bekannten) ja so dankbar, dass sie sich um Mutter kümmere ... und sie wolle mich ja schließlich auch mit 20 € angemessen dafür bezahlen (das sind 2 Stunden Putzhilfe) ....

Nein, vorher mich zu fragen, hat sie vergessen ....

As "personal Easter egg" my Mother had promised a friend of hers that I'd BE GLAD TO KNIT a triangular lace shawl for her. This I would happily do, after all I would be soooo thankful to her friend becauses she looks after my mother fromtime to time ..... and of course she would give me proper payment, 20 € she offered (that's 2 hours of a cleaning lady) .....

No, she just forgot to aks me before she promised .....

Ich bin dann also extrem enttäuscht und traurig und wütend nach Hause gefahren und wollte das blöde Ding nur noch weghaben... Das ist ein Teil der Wolle, wie ich sie übernommen habe, die Schlingen, die sich von ihrem "Knäuel" abgewickelt hatten, hatte sie einfach zwischendurch nach mal rumgewickelt.

I went home extremely disappointed and sad and angry, just wanting to get rid of this b**** thing! This is half the yarn as I got it. The loops that fell of by her way of winding the yarn, she had just wound around again inbetween ....

 

2 Knäule Lacegarn, die farblich überhaupt nicht zusammenpassen, und die Aufgabe, das "was Schönes" draus zu machen, bitte als Dreieck, mit Blockstreifen  und son bisschen Lochmuster ....

2 balls of lace yarn with totally unmatching colors and the duty to make "something nice" out of it: as a triangle, with stripes and "a bit of holes pattern" ....

Die einzige Chance, diese beiden Garne zu kombinieren, war maximaler Kontrast auch im Muster.

52 Stunden später (ja, ich habe Buch geführt!) konnte ich den hässlichen Lappen dann spannen .... ach ja, beim Lacestricken muss ich mich konzentrieren und hingucken, kein Fernsehen, kein Hörbuch, keine Unterhaltung .....


My only chance to combine these yarns was maximal contrast in patterning.

52 hours later (yeah, I kept books!) I was able to block this ugly rag .... btw, knitting lace I have tolook at my knitting and concentrate, no TV, no audio book, no talking ...

 

... und so sieht's jetzt fertig aus.

Und ich werde jetzt weiterhin die dafür vertane Zeit an meiner Freizeit einsparen müssen: Weiter keine Treffen mit Freunden, so wenig Telefonate wie möglich, keine privaten Unternehmungen - nur das Stricktreffen bei Birgit nächste Woche sage ich NICHT ab!

Now it's finished!

And I will have to go on saving the wasted time on my leisure time: no meeting with friend, few and short telephone calls, no private excursions - but the Stricktreff at Birgit next weekend I am not willing to cancel!

Kursbaustein 3, mal wieder anders - Workshop 3, another look

Meinen Kursbaustein 3 Schal mit dickem Garn und 5er Nadeln habe ich auch endlich fotografieren können - ist schon spannend, wie das original gleiche Tuch durch andere Pausen und Umrandung und vor allem die Garnauswahl ganz anders wirkt!

My Workshop 3 shawl with worsted weight yarn and US8 needles is finished, and we finally had weather to take some photos. It's amazing how the identical design with just a few changes in the pauses and finishing and of course different types of yarn seems to be completely different!

 Das ist der neue Schal aus Mountain Meadow Wool, eines meiner US-Souvenirs. Das Garn LARAMIE ist handgefärbt, 196 yards = ca. 180 m/ 3,5 oz = ca. 100g, 100% Mountain Merino®. Ich habe die Farben Lupine und Aqua verwendet. Die Ursprungsbesitzer der Wolle leben auf der The Camino Family's Kid Ranch, Buffalo, Wyoming.

Gekauft habe ich das Garn bei Susan von The Stitchin' Den (www.thestitchinden.com).

Ursprünglich sollte das Tuch Demo-Material für meinen Live-Workshop bei The Stitchin' Den in Estes Park, Colorado, werden - dieser Kurs scheint aber nicht zustande zu kommen, zumindest bekommen wir keine Reaktionen auf unsere Mails, seit es um die konkrete Planung geht ....

Schade, ich habe mich schon auf ein Wiedersehen mit den netten Mädels dort gefreut! Aber wir haben genug andere Angebote für unsere Live-Tour im September in den USA!

Originally this shawl should become demonstration material for my Live Class at the Stitchin' Den - but this class seems not to come about, we do not get any answers to our e-mails since we started planning concretely ......
It's too bad, I was really looking forward to meeting those nice girls again! But we do have enough possibilities for our live tour in September through part of the US!
